Put a Bitcoin amount into dollars
A BTC balance can be difficult to size up when it contains several decimal places. BTC/USD expresses that quantity in US dollars, so you can compare it with a budget or another holding valued in the same currency.
Keep the full Bitcoin amount when calculating. To value BTC, multiply the quantity by the dollar rate; to start with a dollar budget, divide by that rate. A quote for an actual trade may include costs that affect the amount you receive.
