Anthropic IPO: What You Need to Know About Going Public

What we know so far about the Anthropic IPO, the company behind Claude: estimated date, valuation, comparison with OpenAI and how to get ready from Mexico.

Anthropic has taken the decisive step toward its Wall Street debut. The company behind the Claude model confirmed the confidential submission of its draft Form S-1 to the SEC, marking the formal start of its path to the public markets.

Although there is still no confirmed date, price or exchange, the market is already following this move closely. In this article we look at what is known so far, how its process compares with the IPOs of OpenAI and SpaceX, and what real alternatives exist from Mexico to invest in the artificial intelligence ecosystem.

What is Anthropic and why is its possible IPO generating so much interest?

Anthropic is the artificial intelligence research company that develops Claude, the family of models that includes general-purpose assistants and tools such as Claude Code, focused on programming.

It was founded in 2021 by siblings Dario Amodei (chief executive officer) and Daniela Amodei (president), together with a group of former OpenAI researchers, under a Public Benefit Corporation structure with an explicit mandate for safety in AI development (AI safety) as part of its corporate mission, not as a secondary area.

That focus on safety is precisely what sets Anthropic apart from other AI labs that are also preparing to go public, and it is part of why the market is following this process closely: it would be the first time a frontier lab with that specific mandate goes through the financial and regulatory scrutiny of a public company. Size adds to it. Before filing the S-1, Anthropic closed a $65 billion Series H round in May 2026 at a valuation of $965 billion, surpassing OpenAI at that time as the most valuable AI startup in the world.

When will the Anthropic IPO happen? What is known so far

This is what Anthropic has confirmed directly, without speculation:

Milestone Status
Confidential submission of Form S-1 to the SEC Confirmed: June 1, 2026
Advisory banks for the offering Reported: Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley are leading the process
Target exchange Not confirmed
Price per share and number of shares to be offered Not defined
Date of the institutional roadshow and the public offering Not confirmed

Anthropic was explicit in its statement: the filing gives it the option to go public once the SEC completes its review, but the initial public offering will depend on market conditions and other factors. A confidential ‘registration statement’ is a standard mechanism under the JOBS Act that lets growing companies begin the review process with the SEC privately, before publishing the full prospectus. A confidential S-1 does not guarantee that the offering will be completed, nor does it set a date.

Anthropic vs. OpenAI: the AI race to the public markets

Anthropic is not the only generative AI company heading to the public markets. Barely a week after Anthropic’s filing, OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, confirmed on June 8, 2026 its own confidential S-1 submission to the SEC. The two processes are moving in parallel, but with relevant differences: while Anthropic reached this stage with a valuation of $965 billion after its Series H round, OpenAI did so with a reported valuation of around $852 billion (March 2026), although some market reports suggest the company would seek a valuation above $1 trillion at the time of listing.

Microsoft and Nvidia appear as tentative investors in both companies, which makes the comparison not just between two products (Claude versus ChatGPT), but between two different bets by the same large technology infrastructure providers.

Side-by-side comparison: Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceX

To understand how different each process is, it helps to put them next to each other. SpaceX has already completed its IPO; Anthropic and OpenAI are still at the confidential filing stage.

IPO status Confidential S-1 (June 1, 2026) Confidential S-1 (June 8, 2026) IPO completed (June 12, 2026)

None of the three companies has the same story behind it. SpaceX already has a price, a ticker and almost two months of real trading, with all the volatility that implies. Anthropic and OpenAI, on the other hand, remain processes in progress: the only thing guaranteed so far is that both started the review with the SEC, not that they will complete it in the timeframes now circulating in the media.

Who backs Anthropic: funding rounds and valuation

Anthropic’s valuation did not arrive all at once. These are the most recent rounds, with dates:

  • Series F (October 2025): $13 billion, valuation of $183 billion, led by ICONIQ Capital.
  • Series G (February 2026): $30 billion, valuation of $380 billion, led by GIC and Coatue with participation from Nvidia and Microsoft, among others.
  • Series H (May 2026): $65 billion, valuation of $965 billion. Part of that amount ($15 billion) corresponded to prior commitments from infrastructure providers, including $5 billion from Amazon.

In secondary markets for private shares (where platforms such as Forge or EquityZen list stakes in companies that do not yet trade publicly), reference is also made to an extension known as Series H-1.

Among Anthropic’s institutional and strategic backers are Amazon, which besides investing is one of the company’s main compute partners through AWS; Google, through Alphabet and Google Cloud infrastructure; Nvidia, as a chip supplier and also an investor; and Salesforce, through Salesforce Ventures. This mix of financial investors and technology infrastructure is part of why the market follows each round so closely: it is not just capital, it is also who builds the infrastructure that Claude runs on.

Can you buy Anthropic shares before it goes public?

Technically, yes, a market for this exists, but it is not accessible to just anyone. Before an IPO, the private shares or private company stock of companies like Anthropic can only be traded in specialized secondary markets, and almost always with restrictions:

  • Access limited to accredited investors. Most of these platforms require buyers to meet income or net worth requirements to qualify as accredited investors, not as unrestricted retail investors.
  • No public reference price. Unlike a stock that already trades, the price in the secondary market is set by each transaction between buyer and seller, with no public order book.
  • Limited liquidity. Selling those shares back before an IPO can take time, and depends on finding another buyer willing to trade.
  • Restrictions from the company itself. Many private companies, including AI companies, impose conditions on who can buy and sell their shares before they list on a public exchange.

Nvierto, S.A. de C.V., Independent Investment Advisor registered with Mexico’s National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), which operates the Nvierto by Bitso* brand, does not offer access to the secondary market for private shares. The catalog available on Nvierto by Bitso* is made up of instruments that already trade on a regulated public exchange, which in practice means a company like Anthropic would only be available there after completing its IPO, not before.

Will you be able to buy Anthropic shares with Nvierto by Bitso* once it goes public?

If Anthropic completes its IPO and the instrument becomes available in the Nvierto by Bitso* catalog, the process would be the same as the one that exists today for any US stock. You complete your investor profile and search for the instrument by name or ticker in the stocks section. Then you buy in pesos or dollars, with the final price visible before you confirm the transaction and always subject to the availability of the instrument and market conditions.

The service would work like this: Nvierto by Bitso is the brand for the services provided by Nvierto, S.A. de C.V., Independent Investment Advisor (an independent investment advisor registered in the Investment Advisors Registry of the CNBV under folio 30205), which receives and transmits your instructions; execution and custody of the securities are carried out through Alpaca Securities LLC (a FINRA and SIPC member), and everything is operated from the Bitso app.

AI stocks available today with Nvierto by Bitso

While the Anthropic process (and OpenAI’s) is still underway, it is already possible to get exposure to public companies with a direct artificial intelligence business through Nvierto by Bitso*, subject to catalog availability.

Among the names that usually come up in this kind of conversation are Nvidia (NVDA), maker of the chips that train models like Claude and ChatGPT; Microsoft, investor and infrastructure partner of OpenAI; Amazon, investor and compute partner of Anthropic through AWS; and Alphabet, Google’s parent company, with a direct investment in Anthropic and its own infrastructure in Google Cloud. These names are presented only as examples to illustrate what kind of AI exposure already exists today in public markets. They are not investment recommendations.

If you already bought shares of another company linked to this same AI ecosystem, such as SpaceX after its merger with xAI, you can review how to buy stocks from Mexico with Nvierto by Bitso to go through the process step by step.

Risks and what to consider about a possible Anthropic IPO

Filing the S-1 does not guarantee Anthropic will go public

A confidential S-1 is an option, not a commitment. Anthropic can delay, modify or even cancel the offering depending on how market conditions evolve, the outcome of the SEC review or internal company decisions. The same applies to OpenAI. Treating a listing date as a done deal, when it is actually a third-party estimate, is one of the most common mistakes when reading news about this kind of process.

Private valuation vs. IPO price: they are not the same

The $965 billion of the Series H round is a private valuation, negotiated between Anthropic and a specific group of institutional investors at a given moment. The price at which the stock eventually trades on a public exchange, if the process reaches that stage, will be determined by market demand on debut day, not by the last private round. It could end up above, below or equal to that reference; there is no way to know until it happens.

Anthropic is still not profitable: the cost of AI compute

Training and operating large language models is expensive, especially in compute. Like the rest of the frontier AI labs, Anthropic invests considerable sums in training and inference infrastructure before reaching sustained profitability.

This is not exclusive to Anthropic: it is a characteristic of the sector at this stage, and one of the central questions any investor would have to ask before participating in this kind of offering.

Anthropic’s AI safety focus also carries regulatory risk

The same AI safety mandate that sets Anthropic apart also exposes it to a specific type of regulatory risk. In June 2026, Anthropic reported that, following a US government instruction related to export controls, it had to suspend access for foreign nationals to two of its most advanced models, and that it chose to disable them for all users while regulatory compliance was resolved; access was restored at the end of that same month, once the restriction was lifted.

It is a concrete example of how AI technology export control rules can affect, overnight, the availability of a product and, as a result, investor sentiment ahead of an IPO.
